What qualifies for correction

A correction applies when published material was inaccurate at time of filing — wrong time, wrong location, misattributed quote, incorrect verification state, or factual claim later contradicted by authoritative evidence. Disagreements about interpretation, emphasis, or lane assignment generally do not qualify unless they stem from a factual error.

We also publish corrections when we failed to honour embargo timing, misidentified a source tier, or omitted a material superseding statement that was available at filing time. Process failures are documented with the same visibility as factual mistakes because readers rely on our methods as much as our outcomes.

How corrections publish

Each correction references the original signal or bulletin by desk timestamp and lane. It states what was wrong, what is correct, and how the error occurred — desk misread, source retraction, late-arriving document, or verification shortcut that should not have cleared. The original remains accessible in context with a prominent correction link; we do not delete erroneous lines from the public record.

Material corrections may warrant a dedicated bulletin addendum when context matters — for example, a transport diversion time error that could strand commuters. Minor corrections may appear as a dated footnote on the original page when technically feasible. Weekend corrections publish when delay would cause foreseeable harm.

Challenging a line

Factual challenges arrive through direct desk contact only — telephone during published hours, email to [email protected], or visit to 31 Kandahar Street, #03-02, Singapore 198892. We do not operate web forms or anonymous challenge portals because accountability requires a return path for questions.

Include the signal or bulletin timestamp, the disputed sentence, and supporting evidence: official notices, photographs with metadata, named witnesses willing to speak on record, or court documents already public. We acknowledge challenges within one working day when desk is open and aim to resolve or explain verification path within three working days for non-urgent matters.

Bad-faith floods, harassment, or demands to unpublish accurate but uncomfortable lines are not corrections requests. We may decline engagement that targets reporters personally or seeks to erase verified public record without factual basis.

Reader expectations

We correct without deflection language. You will not find vague apologies that avoid stating the error. Corrections are indexed on this page as they publish; no separate paywall or login hides them. If you cite Slate Signal after a correction, cite the correction too — your readers deserve the full record.

Wire Swift Nest Pte. Ltd. maintains internal logs of correction frequency and cause category for desk training. Aggregated statistics may appear in annual transparency notes; individual correction texts remain public indefinitely unless superseded by law.
